Joan's Obituary
Joan Meek, 82, a long-time resident of St. Joseph, Michigan passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2022, in Rockledge Florida, ending a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Joan was born to the late Leo and Lois Keith on November 24, 1939, in Dearborn, Michigan. In 1961 she married the late Stuart F. Meek Jr. and they relocated to St. Joseph in 1963. They were married for 52 years before his death in 2014. She graduated from Lake Michigan College with her nursing degree in 1972 and worked at Lakeland Medical Center as an RN in the Labor and Delivery Unit for 25 years until her retirement in 2000.
Joan was very active in her community. She was a long-time member of Women’s Service League and spent many years performing with the Twin City Players. She met many of her life- long friends when she was involved in the Newcomer’s Club. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Joseph for many years as well as St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Benton Harbor. Joan was an avid golfer and a long-time member of Berrien Hills Country Club. After she retired from nursing, she spent winters living in a golf course community in Indio, CA until her husband’s death in 2014.
Joan is survived by 5 children: Patricia Meek of Benton Harbor, MI; Susan (Jim) Bothwell of Marion, SD; Maribeth (Chris) Van Zandt of Palm Bay, FL; Katherine (Eric Sonnevil) Meek of Baroda, MI; and David Meek of Rocklin, CA, 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren: Katie (Jordon) Stambaugh and their children Oliver and Henry of Benton Harbor, MI; Matthew (Melanie) Wolf of St. Joseph, MI; Joey Wolf of St. Joseph, MI; Alex (Holly) Van Zandt of Palm Bay, FL; Bradley (Kayla) Wolf of St. Joseph, MI; Marissa (Gerard) Du Toit of Citrus Heights, CA; Keller Meek of Benton Harbor, MI; Jeffrey (Kristin) Van Zandt of Beaufort, SC; Roccy Wolf of St. Joseph, MI; Zack Bothwell of Clovis, CA; and Madisen and Allisen Meek of Hemingford, NE. She is also survived by a brother, Larry (LouAnn) Keith of Anaheim, CA.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 23rd from 1 pm to 3 pm at The Boulevard Inn & Bistro, Park View West Room, 521 Lake Blvd., St. Joseph, MI. Please wear blue in honor of Joan’s favorite color.
