Jean's Obituary
Jean M. Virgil (Martin), 87, of Bridgman, went to be with the Lord on November 13, 2021. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services. A private memorial service will take place at a later date with burial being held at Oakside Cemetery in Zephyrhills, FL. Memorial contributions may be made to Community of Christ Church, c/o Pastor Lewis Lambert, 2761 Kaiser Rd., Galien MI, 49113. Jean was born April 21, 1934, in Niles, to Roy & Dorothy (Clark) Martin. She is a graduate of Niles High School. She married the love of her life, George Virgil in 1952. The two were happily married for 62 years before his passing on December 22, 2014.
A lifelong resident of Niles and Buchanan, she worked as a manager for Clark Equipment Company until she retired. Following retirement, she spent winters in Florida with her husband George. She enjoyed the sunshine, some golf and spending time with friends at various events. She was also an avid volunteer for numerous charities while in Florida. Jean moved back to Southwest Michigan in 2019 to be closer to family and was a resident at Woodland Terrace Assisted Living in Bridgman, Michigan. She was also a proud member of Community Christ Church all of her adult life.
Jean is survived by her daughters, Debra (Norman) Virgil Shirey and Teresa (Craig) Virgil Herrington; her grandchildren that she was so proud of, Kelly (Jon) Hiatt, Cameron Herrington, Jason Plummer and Ashley (Ryan) Stump; great-grandchildren, Braeden & Addyson Hiatt, and Margaret & Amelia Stump; many nieces and nephews; step grandchildren; and her dear friends, Lewis and Betty Lambert of Galien, whom she loved dearly.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Roy & Dorothy; twin sister, June; sisters, Ruth, Gladys, and Doris; and brothers, Don, David and Vernon.
