Janath Ann Scott, 79, of Benton Harbor, passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Pine Ridge.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, December 10, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd, St. Joseph, MI. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2021, from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Berrien County Cancer Services or Riverwood Mental Health Center. Janath was born on August 25, 1942 in Cookville, TN to the late Jewell (J.D.) and Ruth (Christie) Scott. After graduating from Benton Harbor High School in 1960, Ms. Scott worked for Whirlpool Corporation from 1960-1967. She also worked for Benton Harbor Area Schools from 1973-1991 at which time she retired. Ms. Scott was the mother of Darrin E. Brant, born in 1964 and Denise A. (Brant) Birmele, born in 1967. In addition to her children, Ms. Scott is survived by her 3 grandchildren, Scott Brant, Brittany Brant Busby and Aaron Birmele, along with 7 great grandchildren. Her siblings include a brother Glenn (Chico) Scott of Benton Harbor, she was preceded by her sister Linda (Scott) Avery in 2001 and her brother Dewayne Scott in 2019. She was also preceded by her parents and son-in-law, Michael Birmele in 2018.

Ms. Scott wanted to acknowledge long term relationships, Joyce (Brant) White, a friend of more than 40 years and Michael L Polaskey, Ms Scott expressed her love for Mr. Polaskey until he preceded her in death in 2013. Janath’s faith in God sustained her through good times and bad. She was baptized at the First Free Will Baptist Church on April 2003. Ms. Scott was a caring, compassionate person whose generosity touched many lives. Love for her children, Darrin and Denise, and grandchildren brought purpose and meaning to her life, they were a source of love and pride.

The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to the doctors and nurses who cared for their mom during her illness.
