Jan's Obituary

Jan A. Schadler, 79, of Stevensville, went to meet her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ, Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Spectrum Health Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph.

A Celebration of Life Eternal will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 19, 2022 at St. Joseph First United Methodist Church, 2950 Lakeview Ave., St. Joseph, with Rev. Dan Colthorp officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma. Friends may visit with the Family beginning at 9:30 A.M. Saturday at the Church. Memorial donations in Jan’s name may be made to St. Joseph First United Methodist Church or the Coloma Masonic Lodge #162. Jan was born September 24, 1942 in Dowagiac, Mi to Fred & Gertrude (Andrews) Crego. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School, Class of 1960, where she played the French Horn in the band which inspired her love for music. Jan then attended Lake Michigan College. On August 12, 1962 she married Bruce Schadler at Peace Temple United Methodist Church in Benton Harbor. Jan devoted her life to caring for her family, but still was employed in the community. She worked as an administrative assistant at the MSU Extension Office in Benton Harbor for many years and most recently at the Berrien County Health Department from where she retired.

Jan was originally a member of Peace Temple United Methodist church in Benton Harbor and currently a member of St. Joseph First United Methodist Church. She loved music and was active as a member of the choir, the handbell choir and the Family Life Committee. She was also a member of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution and a former member of the Order of Eastern Star, Benton Harbor Chapter. She was an ardent supporter of Masonry as her father, husband, son’s and grandchildren have been active, She made many friends over her lifetime. She loved joining her masonic family in any activities she could. Jan cherished the time spent with her family and attended all of her children’s and grandchildren’s school and sporting events, and especially enjoyed the time at the cabin in Hillman, MI. She had the ability to touch everyone she met, her warm smile was infectious and will be fondly remembered by all who she touched. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Jan is survived by Bruce, her husband of nearly sixty years; two sons: Blair (Stephanie) Schadler of St. Joseph, Bryce (Melinda) Schadler of St. Joseph; six grandchildren: Brandon, Blake and Samantha Schadler, Blane, Aleena and Makayla Schadler; sisters-in-law: Ruth, Linda and Debbie; and several nieces and nephews. Jan was preceded in death by her parents.
