Jim's Obituary

James D. “Jim” Hawks, 75, of Decatur, passed away on Friday, February 4, 2022, at his home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Newell Chapel and Cremation Services.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12:00PM on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at Newell Chapel, 83313 M-51, Decatur, with Pastor Christopher Momany officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday from 10:30AM until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Jim’s name may be made to Caring Circle Hospice www.spectrumhealthlakeland.org/caring-circle or National Park Foundation, www.nationalparks.org/support. Jim was born January 8, 1947, in Dowagiac, to Aubrey and Marie Louise (Caroli) Hawks. He graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1965. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force. Jim attended Ferris State University, he graduated in 1993 with his Bachelor’s Degree in business. On May 18, 1968, he married the love of his life, Kande Colvin in Berrien Springs. Jim worked as an accountant for Semco Energy for 25 years before his retirement. He had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and camping. Jim liked to build and make things. He was a long-time member of the Lions Club, a lifetime member of the St. Joseph Valley Masonic Lodge #4 in Niles, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Decatur. Most of all Jim loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Kande Hawks; children, Todd (Dawn) Hawks, Jeff (Renae) Hawks, and Ann (Matt) McDonough; grandchildren, Presley (Chase) Mckenan Boyer, Caleb Hawks, Sydney Hawks, Logan Hawks, Sam McDonough and Abby McDonough; great-grandchildren, Oaklynn Boyer, Harlee Boyer and Broox Hondo Boyer; and brother, Michael (Margaret) Hawks. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother Timothy Hawks.
