Jim's Obituary

James R. Dowling, a redeemed child of God, was called home by his Heavenly Father on Friday, January 7, 2022. Born April 13, 1954 in Saline, Michigan, James was 67 when he died in St. Joseph, Michigan.

After being adopted by George T. and Patricia (Dunn) Dowling of Coloma, Michigan earlier that year, Jim was added to God’s family through his baptism at Grace Lutheran Church on May 24, 1959. His baptism was a cherished memory throughout his life and a source of comfort as he faced his death.

Jim was married to Margie Cox of South Haven, Michigan on August 29, 1978 in San Diego, California. They were blessed with 43 years of marriage. For the last 25 of those years, they shared the blessings of membership at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sodus, Michigan. Jim served his Lord as a church elder and Sunday School teacher, while also participating in Spanish language and other types of mission outreach.

Jim was a proud father and father-in-law of two sons and their wives, Rev. Keegan (Kathryn) of Orleans, Ontario, Canada and Brice (Meredith) of Kalamazoo, Michigan. He was a loving GrandDa to his six grandchildren: Max, Gus, Zade, Jael, Rohan, and Amelia.

In addition to serving his Lord, Jim also faithfully served his country. He served honorably in the Navy, Naval Reserve, Coast Guard Reserve, and Coast Guard Auxiliary. He will receive military rites following the funeral service on Saturday.

James is joined in glory with many who have preceded him in death, including his parents, his brother Patrick, and other relatives.

He is survived by his wife, Margie, of Benton Harbor, Michigan, his children, grandchildren, brother Joe (Jan) Eadie, Aunt Sara Dunn, and numerous other beloved relatives. They look forward to a blessed reunion at the resurrection.

“Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life.” -Revelation 2:10
