Jack's Obituary
Jack Henry Gleason, 83, of Decatur, passed away on Thursday, December 16, 2021 in Kalamazoo.
The family will receive guests from 10am until time of celebration of life service at 12pm, Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 721 Pine St., Paw Paw. Interment will be held privately. Memorial contributions may be given to Decatur Little League, 90889 54th St., Decatur, MI 49045 or Decatur Rocket Football, PO Box 32, Decatur, MI 49045.
Jack was born June 22, 1938 in South Bend, IN to John and Gertrude (Hoffman) Gleason. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Ball State, and went on to further his education with a Master’s Degree from MSU. On August 18, 1962 he married Sally Ruge. The same year, he began his teaching career in the Decatur school system. Over the course of his 34-year career, Jack taught physical education, health and safety, and driver’s education. He also coached wrestling, football, and baseball. Jack, in his free time, enjoyed farming. His family fondly remembers growing grapes, asparagus, and having numerous fruit trees.
Jack is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sally Gleason; his sons, Michael Gleason, and Steve (Kristen) Gleason; his grandsons, Travis, Tyler, and Jacob Gleason; and his brothers, David (Vangie) Gleason, and Thomas (Patricia) Gleason. He is preceded in death by his brother, Philip; and his parents.
