Irene's Obituary

Irene Mae Dukescherer 92, passed away Sunday, May 15,2022 at Meadow Woods Nursing & Rehabilitation Home in Bloomingdale. Born on August 30, 1929, Irene was an only child to William and Gisela “Zella” Dukescherer in South Haven, Michigan.

Irene is preceded in death by her mother, father, several uncles and aunts, Raymond (Elda) Tanczos, Oswald “Ozzie” Tanczos, Rudolph “Rudy” Tanczos, Joseph Tanczos, Mary Smith, Elizabeth “Betty” Lievense and Therese Eleanor Noss.

Irene is survived by several cousins whom she had a very close relationship with, Ruth Szymczak, Lillian Peet, Margaret, Joyce Hale, Karen, Diane Nyer, Cynthia Boyer, John Tanczos and Tom Tanczos.

In her early years, Irene moved to California where she lived for a short time before returning back to Michigan. Irene worked at Bohn Aluminum where she retired after 35 years. She was a loving caregiver and took care of her mother until her passing. Irene traveled with her mother to Austria where their ancestral homeland is, visited family and toured the country. Irene enjoyed traveling, especially with her cousins to Mackinac Island and Traverse City. She loved to bake and enjoyed shopping with friends Judy and Martha. She had a passion for Steve French paintings and valued her friendship with Steve until his passing. Irene also valued her friendship with Krista Beal and Jeff Edwards’s who was there for her until her passing. Irene was very devoted to her church and religiously attended Sunday services with her aunt Elda. Very rarely did you see one there without the other.

A Graveside Service will be held at 12:00pm on June 12, 2022, officiated by Pastor Jodi Cartwright in the Casco Memorial Gardens at the Casco United Methodist Church, 880 60th Street, South Haven. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in memory of Irene to the Casco United Methodist Church, 880 66th Street, South Haven, Mi 49090. Arrangements have been entrusted to Filbrandt Chapel-Starks Family Funeral Homes and Cremation Services. 269-637-0333.
