Ira's Obituary

Ira Lee Burton, 65, formerly of Benton Harbor, passed away, Saturday, August 26, 2023 in Aurora, Colorado where he most recently resided.

A Celebration of Life Home Going service will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Rhema Word Ministries, 717 E. Napier Ave, Benton Harbor, with Rev. Patrick Patterson. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 10:00 A.M. Saturday at the Church. Ira was born May 18, 1958 in Benton Harbor to James & Clarre (Thomas) Burton. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School, Class of 1976. Ira worked in the maintenance department for Benton Harbor Area Schools, retiring in 2010. On May 16, 2011, he married the former Catherine Jusu in Benton Harbor. Ira was devoted to helping others, always willing to do whatever he could for those in need. In his free-time, he enjoyed traveling across the United States and going on cruises to beautiful tropical climates. Ira cherished the time spent with his loving family and numerous friends.

Ira is survived by his wife Catherine; his son Marc Antwan Burton; five grandchildren-Antwan Brooks, Noah Harding, Aamia Burton, Mar Antwan Burton, Jr. Cheyenne Burton; siblings-Vania (Robert) Nevels, Mary (George) Bell, Delphine McMillion, Margette (Don) Hawkins, Elizabeth Pankey, Jerome Burton & Stanley Burton; sister-in-law Ta-Lea Burton; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends too numerous to mention. Ira was preceded in death by his son Malachi Dezale on December 21, 2020, his parents, and a sister Patricia Steele.
