Holly's Obituary
Holly was born on October 2, 1947 in Oak Park, IL, to the late Harold and Ruth (Yager) Tengerstrom. She grew up in Cicero, IL with her parents and brother Gregg. Holly loved her parents and stayed close to them throughout their lives.
Holly’s first marriage was with Milo Fencl in 1967; they had two boys – Bret and Bart Fencl. Holly’s dad built a summer cottage in Rosemary Beach in the 1960’s, and they would come to the Lake Michigan area for years.
Holly was creative and an artist, including both oil and watercolor painting in the 1970’s. She painted many landscapes, with inspiration from the Colorado mountains. While living in Colorado several years, she was also an avid skier with her sons.
After moving to Stevensville, Holly met and married Bob Martin in 1983. They had a daughter Heather, and Holly made her first quilt for the newborn baby. She learned the skill of quilting from her mother and from there her passion grew. Holly joined the Berrien Towne and Country Quilters Guild. She decided to open Loving Stiches Quilt Shop in 1996 where she sold fabric and taught classes. During this time she also became a grandmother to Troy Fencl.
Holly and Bob golfed at every opportunity they could, including the top 50 public courses in Michigan. They planted a flower garden, that over the years expanded into their whole back yard. Her garden was on two township garden tours and she loved sharing her plants. Running around their yard are two rescue dogs Bernie and Sammy.
Holly’s memory began to fade, but she always had a smile and a twinkle in her eyes. You could still sense the love that she had for her family. The Lord took her to join him in an eternal life in Heaven.
Holly is survived by her husband – Robert; children – Bret (Leslie) Fencl of Florida, Bart Fencl of Ypsilanti, MI, and Heather (Aaron) Broehm of Stevensville, MI; grandson – Troy.
