Hilda's Obituary

Hilda Reinhardt (nee Trenkel) 92, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, December 22, 2021. She was surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and husband of 71 years.

Hilda was born June 10, 1929, in Volhynia (Germany). She was one of 5 children of Rudolf and Olga Trenkel. She loved growing up on her family’s small farm but hated taking care of the geese. She often told stories of them chasing and biting her. She preferred to spend time in the garden.

She was a wonderful mother, Oma, and great-grandmother. She doted on her husband and was happiest when her family came to visit. She loved cooking but her favorite was baking lots of desserts.
At age 92, she still planted her garden with potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers, and raspberries. Her grandchildren always said she was the hardest working person they knew.

Hilda married Albert Reinhardt in Isenbϋttel Germany in 1950. Their sons, Dieter and Guenter were both born in Germany. They immigrated to the United States in 1952, where they were later blessed with their daughter Monika.

Hilda worked at Michigan Fruit Canners and later worked at Armaly Sponge Company until she retired in 1984. She then was a daycare provider for 3 of her 9 grandchildren. When she wasn’t working in her garden or baking German yeast cakes, you would see her outside taking care of her hundreds of flowers around their house.

She is survived by her husband Albert, children Dieter (Terri) of Aurora Illinois, Guenter (Kathy) of South Bend Indiana, and Monika (Randy Reimers) of Sister Lakes Michigan; grandchildren Kryssi, Becky, Pam, Michael, John Paul, James, Daniel, David, Elizabeth and 7 great-grandchildren.
