Harold's Obituary

Harold Lawrence Gundersen, Jr., 87, of Benton Harbor, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 5, 2022, at the Pine Ridge Nursing Center. He was born August 15, 1935 in Muskegon, MI to Harold and Wanda (Meyers) Gundersen.

The family will receive guests from 10am until time of celebration of life service at 11am, Saturday, December 17, 2022, at Fairplain Presbyterian Church, 210 W. Napier Ave., Benton Harbor. Interment will be held privately. Memorial contributions may be given to the Fairplain Presbyterian Church.

Harold was a graduate of Michigan State University, where he was a member of the marching band for four years. In 1953 and 1955, the band was featured at the Rose Bowl parade, something he was very proud of. Harold worked for many years as an electrical engineer before retiring and starting his own fruit farm, Gundersen Orchards, over 30 years ago. His true passion was farming, but he also enjoyed reading a good book, and cheering on his Spartans. His faith was very important to him. Over the years he held leadership roles in the church and sang in the choir.

Harold will be missed by his wife of 64 years, Eloise (Ackerberg) Gundersen, whom he married August 30, 1958 in Muskegon, MI; his sons, David (Rose) Gundersen, Daniel (Jill) Gundersen, and Eric (Mari) Gundersen; his grandchildren, Kyle, Luke (Lindsay), Brett (Autumn), Brooke, Jarett, Daniel, and Joseph; and his great grandchildren, Payton and Finn.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Carole VanderWall, and his parents Harold and Wanda.
