Glenn Kamphorst, 78, of St. Joseph, passed away on September 18, 2023 at Royalton Manor in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Graveside Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 14, at 11 AM at Lincoln Charter Township Cemetery in Stevensville. Memorial contribution may be made to the Stevensville American Legion Post #568, 3093 Johnson Rd., Stevensville MI 49127. Glenn was born on April, 2, 1945 in Chicago, IL to Gus & Agnes (Hoekstra) Kamphorst. He graduated from Chicago Christian High School. Following graduation, Glenn proudly enlisted in the United States Army & Army Reserves. After he was honorably discharged, Glenn started his career in printing at R.R. Donnelley & Sons in Chicago, for 10 years. From there he bought and ran Tesar Printing where he and his brother Lloyd worked for 40 years. During the time, he gifted his time, talent and printing equipment to special organizations in the community. He faithfully printed, mailed, and/ or emailed the newsletter for the Stevensville American Legion post 568, The American Association of University Women (AAUW) annual membership book and posters for their book sales were printed and delivered with a smile, as were the printed membership books, posters and other projects for the Women’s Service League.
His leisure time was varied in creative memories for many of his friends. Glenn was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association in Oshkosh, WI. He and his friend Claude Meyer built a Long EZ airplane and they would fly it out of the airport in Berrien Springs. His fishing boat, aptly named Mal de mer, French for ‘sea sickness’, was often seen out on Lake Michigan providing fish for dinner and fun for many of his friends. A memorable trip for one group of friends was when they ventured to Canada for a week, taking their sons along for canoeing, fishing, and camping. When Glenn joined the group, he was given a “son for a week” since he had no children of his own. That trip was still talked about while tailgating at the University of Michigan football games that were added to the list as the years went by. Glenn was also a proud member and past Commander of the Stevensville American Legion Post #568.
Glenn is survived by his sister Fayelyn (Leon) Schaddelee; niece, Rachel (Bob) Ratledge; nephew, Ryan Schaddelee; great-nieces & nephew, Lillian, Lauren and Logan Ratledge. He was preceded in death by his parents and his twin brother, Lloyd.
