Gertrude's Obituary

Gertrude Hazel Marie (Canty) Vujtech was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and admirable friend to all that knew her. Active throughout her life, she made each moment count. She had relentless compassion, a “can-do” personality and welcomed anyone she met with open arms, never any judgment.

Gertrude was born in Chicago, IL on January 24, 1942 to Jeremiah & Gertrude (Condon) Canty. Chicago is where she met Robert Frances Vujtech. They were married August 30, 1969. They had two sons, Robert and Brad Vujtech. Shortly after the boys were born, Robert and Trudy moved to Allegan, MI where they owned a printing business. Trudy moved back to Chicago, following her sons who both took positions after college in the city. She was definitely a city girl; she enjoyed many walks to the park and loved the farmer’s market. It didn’t take much to make her happy.

Shortly after Trudy’s first grandchild RJ was born, he began calling her “Honey” and she has been our Honey ever since. Her biggest love and fulfillment in life were her six grandchildren. She had a special bond and adored each of them for their uniqueness. She loved to entertain, had a fun competitive spirit when playing cards and wouldn’t miss a grandchild's event whether in person or by stream. She was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles and was always up to date on current events. Trudy took pleasure in a healthy debate, usually with her family members and closest friends on the latest politics or worldly events taking place at the time. She loved being outside planting flowers or updating her landscaping. Trudy was a loyal friend with an ability to listen and offer encouragement; she was just easy. She was a gift to our family and anyone that knew her. Trudy was a very special lady and will be deeply missed.

Gertrude Marie (Canty)Vujtech, age 81, died on March 20, 2023. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Frances Vujtech, brother; Jeremiah Canty and her parents. Survived by her sons; Robert John (Courtney) Vujtech and Brad Canty (Kellie) Vujtech, grandchildren; Trevor, Bryce, Alexis, RJ, Gavin and Tyler.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life at a later date. Those wishing to leave an online condolence may do so at www.starks-mechinger.com.
