Gerald R. “Jerry” Smith, 90, of St. Joseph, passed away, Friday, June 16, 2023 at Pine Ridge Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Stevensville.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, June 22, 2023 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Pastor Stephen Wesco officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph with military rites conducted by the North Berrien Military Rites Team. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials in Jerry’s name may be made to Caring Circle Hospice or Fellowship Baptist Church in South Bend, IN. Jerry was born June 13, 1933 in Benton Harbor to Charles & Dorothy (Fleming) Smith. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School, Class of 1951. On August 10, 1952, he married the former Beverly Ann McTague in Las Vegas, NV. Jerry served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Upon return from the military, Jerry gained employment with Heath Co. where he worked for many years. He finished his career with Whirlpool Corp. after many years of service. Jerry attended Fellowship Baptist Church in South Bend, enjoyed caning & refinishing furniture, camping with the family, garage sales, photography, attending the grandchildren’s sporting events, and especially the time spent with his children, grand & great-grandchildren.

Jerry is survived by his two sons-Greg (Wendy) Smith of St. Joseph, Douglas (JoAnne) Smith of Bangor; his son-in-law Richard (Josefa) Barrows of South Bend; twelve grandchildren-Rebekah (James) Shoemaker, Aimee (Virgil) Wesco, Kathleen (Logan) Reynolds, Carissa Barrows, Jonathan (Abigail) Barrows, Michael (Ana) Smith, Kevin Smith, Laura (Jeff) Sackett, Benjamin (Adrianne) Smith, Peter (Brittany) Smith, Timothy (Rachel) Smith & Marcus (Emily) Smith; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Bev, daughter-in-law Jennifer, and his daughter Debra Barrows all in 2018, & by his parents, a brother & two sisters.
