George Lee Bell, 72, of Benton Harbor, MI, passed away on Weds. June 1, 2022 at his residence. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Chapel – 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI.
George was born on May 3,1950 in Shuqualak, MS to the late Freddie Lee Bell and Katie (Jenkins) Bell. On June 9, 1973 he married Mary Ruth Burton. George was a retired truck driver. He enjoyed riding his bike, barbecuing, cooking, bowling, fishing and dancing. But most of all he loved his family and spending time with them.
George is survived by his wife Mary of 48 years; his children – Curtis (LaToya) Burton, Sr., of St. Peters, MO, Timothy (Nicole) Bell, Sr., of Benton Harbor, MI, Terijuana (Loren) Johnson of Benton Harbor, MI and Shawana Bell of Benton Harbor, MI; grandchildren – Curtis Burton, Jr., Devin Burton, Brandon Burton, Timesha Bell, DaMaree’ Bell, Timothy Bell, Jr., Jada Bell, Tyree Spann, Freddie DeWitt, Loren Johnson, II and Jayla Johnson; a great grandchild – Iza’bella Bell; sister – Alberta (Doyle) Brown of Benton Harbor; brother – Jerome Bell of Tuscaloosa, AL; and a host of nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by a daughter – Shaweria Bell and brothers – Willie Bell and Freddie Bell.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Weds. June 15, 12 noon, at the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Benton Harbor, with Pastor Carlton Lynch officiating. Burial will take place at North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma, MI. Visitation precedes the service from 11:00am-12 noon at the church.
