Gary Leon Stewart

Gary was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a dear friend to many. He never missed the opportunity to love and encourage, and joke with his family and friends. His good soul was evident in never knowing a stranger, to talk with anyone he came in contact with, leaving the person smiling, laughing, and walking away feeling better for the exchange. He always waved at a policeman and shook the hand of a veteran, thanking him for his service. His eternal optimism radiated in his personality throughout his life. It was always a sunny day.
He was born in Barstow, California, met the love of his life, Joy, at 16, and married her at 18, sharing almost 58 years together. He worked at General Motors Kalamazoo for 30 years; all the while busy raising a family, remodeling his homes, tinkering, figuring out projects with his trusty big yellow Readers Digest Complete Do-It-Yourself Manual at his side. He tackled every project set before him with tenacity and enthusiasm, remodeling three homes extensively.
Gary is survived by his wife and their children Lisa Marie and Gregory Lee (Lisa Lou-Ann). He was also blessed with 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his brother, Steve and his stepmother, Larraine. Preceding him in death was his dad, Mike, mom, Midge, and his sister, Linda.
Gary accepted his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ at a young age and was increasingly influenced over the years by Jesus’ teaching and love throughout his life. He lead numerous small groups, mentored men and taught Sunday School for many years. Proverbs 3: 5,6 was the ever-present guide for direction. His life and unpretentious soul is an example and inspiration to us all.
At his request, cremation will follow and there will be no formal visitation nor memorial service. Heartfelt thanks to those who have visited and shared.
