Garry's Obituary

Garry D Krum, 67, of Paw Paw, Michigan, passed away on January 17, 2022 after a valiant but short battle with covid complications, ultimately succumbing to acute mesenteric ischemia.

Garry was born on October 8, 1954 in Grand Rapids, son of Gordon and Opal Krum.
Graduating from Decatur in 1973.

At 14 years old he started working at Krum Chevrolet and at 17 he started his long career as Vice President of Airway Lanes until his retirement in 1995. During this time, he was able to not only get an associate’s degree in Business and Restaurant Management, but also received his small aircraft pilot’s license and was a 13 year faithful member of
Decatur-Hamilton Fire Department. After his retirement in 1995 he bought Ray’s Pool Service in Lakeland, FL and was able to land a retirement position at his favorite place of Walt Disney World. Garry moved the family back to Michigan in 2001 to be closer to his aging parents. When he returned to Michigan he was able to pursue his passion of being a licensed ham radio operator, he was secretary for Kalamazoo Smart Club and a member of NHRA, Nascar, Camaro, Challenger, Chevelle, Michigan Snowmobilers Association and became an ordained minister, performing marriage ceremonies including the ceremony of his daughter, Kristine. Garry was also a lifelong member of The First Presbyterian Church of Decatur.

In 1970, he started dating Shelley Marie Knoll, and they wed September 14, 1974, going on to have 4 daughters, 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Garry was predeceased by his father and mother. He is survived by his wife of 47 years,
Shelley Knoll Krum, daughters Nicole Krum of Port Charlotte, Florida, Kristine (Kolby) Plummer, Paw Paw, Jacqueline Krum, Decatur, and Diana (Bruce) Reddick, Paw Paw.
Grandchildren, Makayla (Justin), mother and father of Aurora and Ezequiel, his first two great-grandchildren, Travaughn, Jacob, father of Hazel, his third great-grandchild, Shauntel, Jasmine, Victoria (Kevin), CaraAnn, Alex, Kaci, Aurin, Davina, Charles,
LeBryan, Noelani, and honorary grandson Dominic. He is also survived by his sister
Nancy Wiese of Decatur and children Elizabeth, Stefanie and Kreigh. Cousins Janice Ann (Dennis) McNally, David (Linda) Krum, Jon (Laurie) Krum, and their respective families, Schoolcraft.

Cremation was provided by Newell Chapel/ Starks Family Funeral Homes, Decatur with
a celebration of life taking place at a later time due to Covid. And please in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, of Decatur,
