Frances's Obituary

Frances O. Jenkins of Stevensville, Michigan, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 13, 2021, surrounded by her loved ones at home.

She was born November 23, 1927, in Morgan, Alabama to Romey Jerome and Cynthia Bessie (Singleton) Garrison. Frances was one of 10 siblings and is survived by her brother Bobby (Donna) Garrison of Michigan.

She had seven children: Lois (Butch) Paar, Jerrie (Jeff) Callendar, Wilma (Richard) Killips, Carol Scott, Douglas (Debra) Jenkins, Tina (Drek) Stubblefield, and Jerome (Lori) Jenkins.

Frances also was immensely blessed with 24 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, and 20 great, great grandchildren.

Frances was well known to have three great loves: The Lord, her family, and The Alabama Crimson Tide. Woe to the person who dared change the channel on Saturday afternoons when Bama was on the field. She was fierce and sassy, and possessed a wonderful sense of humor. And though she lived in Michigan for most of her life, she never lost her beautiful southern drawl.

Frances was a good bowler and spent many years bowling on a league with her daughters. She also was a huge supporter of her grandchildren’s activities, and could always be counted on to be in the stands cheering them on as they participated in sports.

She loved to dance and travel, and was known to have a bit of a lead foot. It was a special treat for her each year to ride down to Alabama with her daughters to visit family. She also took great pleasure in playing card games, and was known more than once to get caught by her grandchildren with an “advantageous” card stuck to her leg.

Frances welcomed everyone into her home, and she always made sure they were well fed. She touched the hearts of all who knew her, and always had time to lend
an ear, a shoulder, a hug, and good advice. Her wisdom was as well-known as her wit.

Even as her health failed, her family found ways to celebrate. Each Thursday, daughter Lois would bring a special lunch to serve during her visit. Lois’s cooking skills are well known within the family, and Thursdays became epic gatherings for family to enjoy good food, good company and good laughter. Fran loved these Thursdays right up to her last days.

Frances was preceded in death by 8 of her siblings, her daughter Wilma Killips, granddaughter Caroline Kay, and grandson Mathew Scott.

Though we mourn her passing, we lovingly celebrate a life well lived. We will continue to cherish and be enriched by the beautiful memories she created for many years to come.

A celebration of life service will be held at noon on Friday, November 19, 2021, at the Berrien County Baptist Church, 5940 St. Joseph Ave., Stevensville, MI. Visitation will be held one hour prior, from 11-noon also at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Berrien County Baptist Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Chapel, St. Joseph. Those wishing to send a condolence online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.
