Florine's Obituary

Florine E. Nott passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord on Monday, May 30, 2022, at Mission Point Meadow Woods, Bloomingdale with her loving son by her side. She was born December 3, 1928, to Maurice W. Flynn and Myra E. (Platt) Flynn in Toulon Illinois.

Her father was an auctioneer and Florine loved to hear his stories of people he met and items they sold. She was always intrigued by the variety of interesting collectables he often brought home. This curiosity ignited a lifelong interest in collecting unusual and fascinating items throughout her life.

On December 4, 1960, in Kalamazoo, Michigan she was united in marriage to Merle B. Nott who preceded her in death. In Florine’s professional life she was an administrative secretary who prided herself on completing office duties efficiently and timely to always be ready for the next task.

Florine loved the Lord with all her heart. She also had a deep love for cooking, baking, and reading. She always wanted to prepare something delicious to share with or give away to friends. She also had a great collection of books on many different subjects which she gladly shared and many times gave away, as a means of blessing someone. One of the greatest joys she had was to send books to her grandchildren in California. She loved to boast of what accomplished readers they both were and how immensely proud she was of them and of her son and daughter-in-law.

Florine also had a great love for nature, flowers, plants, trees, birds, butterflies, and all animals. That love led her to pursue an education in gardening. And in 2003 she completed the Michigan State University Extension Program and earned the distinguished title of Master Gardener. A title she was extremely proud of. She was an active member of the Paw Paw Garden Club for many, many years. One of her proudest accomplishments was the Butterfly Garden at Tyler Field in Paw Paw. She spent countless happy hours weeding, planting, and planning ways to improve the garden and make it a better place for butterflies and patrons to enjoy its beauty.

Florine is survived by her son Randy (Tracey) Nott and Grandchildren, Lara, and Griffin Nott. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister, Marian Flynn.

A graveside service is scheduled for Friday June 3, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Dewey Lake Cemetery, Sisters Lake, Michigan. Memorial contributions can be made to First Baptist Church, 32464 E. Red Arrow Hwy, Paw Paw, MI. Arrangements are entrusted to Filbrandt Chapel-Starks Family Funeral Homes and Cremation Services. 269-637-0333.
