Gene's Obituary

Eugene Salvatore “Gene” Pastrick, 71, of Benton Harbor, passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, February 8, 2022.

Gene was a “bigger than life” person. Whatever he did, he went all out. He truly cared about other people. He graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School and loved coaching basketball and football for different schools in the Kalamazoo and Benton Harbor areas. Gene was a proud member of the Elks in Kalamazoo, and the Benton Harbor-Fairplain Lions Club where he was immediate past president. He enjoyed giving back to and working with both communities while involved with these service minded organizations.

One of Gene’s favorite pass-times was making some of the best spaghetti sauce in the world. He loved his pasta! He also loved his animals. He and Peggy always had at least one and sometimes as many as four, Standard Poodles and a cat or two as well. Jazz, their current poodle was always by Gene’s side.

Many thanks to Gabby at the Area Agency on Aging for her assistance, knowledge and compassion in making Peggy and Gene’s life easier. Also, thanks to all the wonderful people at Caring Circle Hospice, Golden Shore, and all the other friends and family that gave love and support.

Gene is survived by Peggy (nee Humbert) Pastrick, the love of his life, Tony Pastrick, his older brother, and numerous cousins and family both in the area, and in and around Chicago, and of course, “the very good dog”, Jazz. His parents Marie & Ed, his older brother Frank and twin brother Ed, all preceded Gene in death.

Cremation has already taken place. A memorial service will be planned and announced at a later date. Those wishing to sign Gene’s Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.
