Emily's Obituary
Emily Marie Smith, 96, of Decatur, formerly of Mulberry, FL, passed away Saturday afternoon, August 26, 2023 at her home.
She was born on July 2, 1927 in East Chicago, IN, the daughter of the late Frank and Helen (Piskorz) Smith. Emily was employed by Shell Oil for 40 years until her retirement. She resided in the Calumet section of East Chicago until 949 and then moved with her family to Hessville, Iniana, until retirement. In the mid 1950’s, she also worked for the U.S. military in Okinawa, Japan for 4 years. In 1989, Emily moved to Mulberry, Florida following her retirement. Over the years, she enjoyed traveling the U.S. visiting various family members. She was a wonderful Auntie Emmy to her many nieces and nephews.
Surviving are brother and sister-in-law, Rudy and Martha Smith of Decatur; and seven nieces and nephews – Tim (Denise) Felus, Pam (Dave) Hurst, Becky (Wayne) Mishler, Barb (Steve) Court, Bonny Marshall, Shelly Smith and Shane (Julie) Smith.
Preceding her in death were two sisters – Joan (Bill) Bremer and Frances (Ed) Felus; brother – Dan Smith; nephews – David Smith and Terry Felus; and nephew-in-law, Lynn Marshall.
Honoring Emily’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no public visitation or service. Private family inurnment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, IL. Arrangements were entrusted to Newell Chapel – Starks Family Funeral Homes, 83313 M-51, Decatur.
