Elizabeth ‘Betsy’ Shiveley, 80, of St. Joseph, MI, passed away at Spectrum Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph, MI. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Funeral Home – 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI.
Betsy was born on June 25, 1941 in Bradford, PA to the late Bernard and Frances (McCandless) Stewart. She was a graduate of Lima High School. On September 3, 1961, in Lima, OH, she married Ned ‘Tom’ Shiveley; he preceded her in death on March 2, 2020. Betsy worked at Upton Junior High School in the cafeteria from 1970-2005. She started as the original baker and retired as Unit Manager. She loved baking and her sons say she must have baked tens of thousands of cookies, both at school for the students and at home for family and friends. Betsy also enjoyed line dancing, golfing and was an avid Chicago Cub fan.
Betsy is survived by her two sons – Mark Shiveley of Grand Rapids, MI and Scott (Lisa) Shiveley of St. Joseph; a brother – James (Kathy) Stewart of Elida, OH; and her co-worker and best friend – Emie Gallagher of St. Joseph.
A Celebration of Life Gathering with the family will be held on Wednesday, March 30, from 5:00-7:00pm, at Starks & Menchinger Funeral Home in St. Joseph. Private family burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Southwestern Michigan.
