Eleanor's Obituary

Eleanor Jean Krejci, 91, of Stevensville, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, March 20, 2022, surrounded by her family.

She was born to Arthur and Elsie (Greening) Jeschke on February 20, 1931, at Buckhorn in Berrien Springs, MI. They moved to St. Joseph in 1938. Eleanor was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran School in 1945 and graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1949. As a young girl she worked at the Whitcomb Hotel, Wilson’s Bakery in St. Joseph and Saranac Machine Company in Benton Harbor.

Eleanor married Joseph Krejci at Trinity Lutheran Church on October 15, 1955. They spent fifty-three years together until his passing in 2008. They had two sons, Joseph III of Joliet, IL and James (Sharon) Krejci of Stevensville. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stevensville. Eleanor was very active at St. Paul’s School when her boys were in school. She was also a member of the Stevensville American Legion Auxiliary where she was a past president in 1967. Eleanor was auxiliary chaplain for six years. She was also a member of St. Joseph F.O.P. and volunteered at St. Joseph Lincoln Center and Berrien County Cancer.

Eleanor, the card lady, always remembered many people with birthday cards, get well cards, thinking of you cards, holiday cards etc. She would also remember the veterans on Memorial and Veterans Day, they will be missed.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Friday, March 25, 2022, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd. St. Joseph. A celebration of life service will be held at 9:30 am on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2673 W. John Beers Rd., Stevensville, MI with Pastor Jeremy Koehler officiating. Burial will follow in Lincoln Township Cemetery, Stevensville. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Stevensville American Legion, or St. Joseph-Lincoln Senior Center.

Eleanor is survived by her two sons, Joseph III and James (Sharon) Krejci, Sr.; grandchildren, James (Rebecca) Krejci, Jr., Allyson Krejci, Ashley Zeller, Ryne Krejci and Jackson Krejci; great-granddaughter, Abigail; step-great-grandsons, Gabriel and Michael; brother, Donald (Sharon) Jeschke and special friends, Alan and Jonathan Voit and Valerie Kozubal. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; parents; sisters, Dorothy Rudlaff and Elaine Tiefenbach and her precious little companions, Nando, Hermie I, II, III and Sammie.

Eleanor would like to thank her family and friends for the cards, visits and gifts over the past few months. Unfortunately, with her health, she wasn’t able to keep up with her acknowledgment cards as she would have liked to. With love, “the card lady.”
