Elaine's Obituary

Elaine B. Osmun, 83, of Benton Harbor passed away peacefully Thursday morning, August 10, 2023, at Corewell Health Lakeland Hospital, St. Joseph, following a short illness with her family present.

Elaine was born on September 28, 1939, in Grand Rapids, Mich., the daughter of Keith and Lois Houston. She graduated from Creston High School in Grand Rapids before attending Michigan State University. While at MSU, she met and married Sterling Osmun, the love of her life, on April 3, 1959.

In her youth, she played piano, sang in church choirs, and was a Cub Scout den mother. Elaine loved playing cribbage with members of her family, reading mysteries, watching home improvement and cooking shows, and Sudoku. She would entertain friends and family by recounting her teenage European adventures and her summers spent growing up around Torch Lake in Michigan. Her family describes her as possessing a kind and caring demeanor, being a good listener, having a wonderful smile, and was a devoted wife and mother.

Elaine worked a number of jobs throughout her life, but was proud of her past participation in League of Women Voters, Planned Parenthood, and Smith-Dahmer Associates. She retired in 2009.

She is survived by her twin sons Curtis and Gregory Osmun; her grandson, Douglas Osmun and granddaughter-in-law, Sarah Amos; three nieces, Annette (Michael) Brooks, Sharon Chapman- (Eric) Fallot and Helen (Dan) Vontom; and sister-in-law, Carol Houston Schneider.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, her brother James R. Houston, and sister Berta (Houston) Mendelsohn.

No service is planned at this time.

In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to Planned Parenthood Federation of America: https://www.plannedparenthood.org
