Edward's Obituary

Edward Rudolph Gerger, 86, of Benton Harbor, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 in St. Joseph. He was born February 16, 1936 in Richardton, ND to Anton and Barbara (Phillips) Gerger.

The family will receive guests from 11am until time of celebration of life service at 12pm, Monday, November 14, 2022 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Burial with military honors to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, St. Joseph. Memorial contributions may be given to the Humane Society of Southwest Michigan, www.humanesocietyswm.org.

Ed served in the Army from 1955-1958, stationed in Fairbanks, AK. After the Army, he worked briefly for Leco, before being encouraged to attend barber college. Ed was a barber for 48 years, working in various local shops before retiring from a shop in Stevensville. Ed will best be remembered for his sense of humor; always a jokester, he never met a stranger. He enjoyed polka music, playing his concertina, attending the DANK, trying his luck at the casino, and playing cards. But he most enjoyed generously giving his nieces and nephews “slurpee money.”

Ed is survived by his siblings, Irene (Tom) Valacak, Stephen (Sharon) Gerger, Terri (the late Bill) Pruitt, and Grace Fauson; his step-daughter, Christine Taylor; his step-granddaughters, Gabriela Castillo, and Angelica Castillo; his significant other, Norma Lohraff; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia (Skeels) Gerger; his siblings, Tony Gerger, Wilbert Gerger, and Arloween Gerger; and his parents.
