Ed was born August 3, 1945 in Berwyn, Illinois to Ben & Ann (Adam) Kovar. His family moved to St. Joseph at an early age where he attended Lakeshore Schools and later earned his GED. On August 13, 1966, he married the former Rose Swears in Hartford, MI. Ed was employed for twenty-five years at Gast Manufacturing, retiring in 2012. For three years, from 1990-1993, Ed and his family operated E & R Concessions. They provided delicious food out of two different mobile concession stands in the Berrien County area for various out-door events. Ed was active in Boy Scouts for ten years and served as assistant scout master for several years while his son Eddie was in scouting. In his early years, Ed was passionate about cars and owned a few he wished he still had. He enjoyed tending to his house and yard and all the wildlife that inhabited his property, and enjoyed playing the slots at Four Winds and an occasional trip to Las Vegas. Most of all, Ed enjoyed tending to the many family dogs over the years and spending time with his loving family.

Ed is survived by his wife of nearly fifty-seven years, Rose; his children-Corina (Jeff) Rasor of Bridgman, Edward J. “Eddie” (Sarah) Kovar of Riverside, MI, Betty (William) Blocker of Bridgman; two generations of grand & great-grandchildren; his brother Joseph Kovar of St. Joseph; sisters-in-law Pam Durden of Benton Harbor & Lois Johnson of Cave City, AR; several nieces & nephews & great-nieces & great-nephews; and special friend Michael “Woody” Boucher and other friends too numerous to mention, and grand-dogs-Breezey, Ryker & Brit. He was preceded in death by his parents and his last canine companion PJ.
