Earl's Obituary

Earl Travis Head was born on March 28, 1949, in Benton Harbor, Michigan to the late Virginia Humphries Head and Thomas Head. He went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 30, 2022.
A Celebration of Life Home Going Service will be held 12:00 P.M. Thursday, January 12, 2023 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Rev. Patrick Patterson officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the North Berrien Military Rites Team. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
Earl accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early age under the leadership of Pastor Camilla F. Bogan in Benton Harbor, MI.
He was a student in the Benton Harbor Area Schools participating in Track and Basketball, graduating with the Class of 1967. After graduation, Earl was drafted into the United States Army from 1969 to 1971. During his stint in the Army, Earl married Marcia Leverne Jackson and to that union they had two beautiful daughters and one stepson.
Earl was formerly employed at Whirlpool, Wicks Lumber, Goldblatts, Van Buren Weatherization Program as a Home Inspector, AMF Blossom Lanes, and Plante Moran.
Earl loved Bowling, Grilling outdoors, Fishing, and coaching different sports, going to the Casino, and especially spending time with family and his host of buddies and friends. His buddies consisted of Kenneth Vaz, Ezell Tillman, the late Timothy Mummaw, Scott Fleisher, the late Rick Henderson, Kevin White and the late Jarvis McCoy. He bowled over 30 years and his greatest joy was when he was inducted into the Southwest Michigan USBC Hall of Fame for Meritorious Service in June 2022.
On August 12, 1993, he married Pamela Lynn Richmond, and became a Stepfather to two children. They enjoyed traveling on Thanksgiving to the Casino in Davenport, Iowa.
He leaves to cherish his memories daughters: Bridgette (Jeremiah) Head and Karen T. Head both of Benton Harbor, MI, and stepson Eric Dion Reese of Las Vegas, NV, grandchildren De’Anthony J. Head of Kalamazoo, MI, Jeremiah T. McCoy III of St. Joseph, MI, Kaniya N. Lamb of Lansing, MI and Lonzo A. Lamb III of Benton Harbor, MI; Torri D. Reese of Germany, and Brandon Reese of Las Vegas, NV, great grandchildren De’Anthony J. Head III of Benton Harbor, De’jia Earl Allen Head of Kalamazoo, MI and Honorary Godson James Mummaw of Sister Lakes, MI.
He also leaves to cherish his memories: Stepchildren Eric D. (Regina) Richmond of South Haven, MI and Anjanette N. (Kenneth) Richmond of Benton Harbor, MI, step-grandchildren Ka’Tiesha S. Richmond of Grand Rapids, MI, Ka’Daron D. Richmond of Benton Harbor, MI, Ere’Yanna N. Richmond of Grand Rapids, MI; Eric D. Richmond II and Tonya Yvette Lynn Richmond of South Haven, MI; and step-great grandchildren Kar’Synn S. Richmond and Kessiah B. Thomas of Grand Rapids, MI his Father in Law Willis Richmond of Benton Harbor, MI; Brothers In Law, Rodney (Carol) Alexander of Benton Harbor, MI and Dennis Alexander of Canton, MI, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Virginia and Thomas, sister Brenda Gaines; Mother-in-law Earlola Richmond; Brother-in-law Brian Richmond; and grandsons Michael D. Reese and Tre’Vonn K. Richmond.
