Dot's Obituary
Dorothy Mary Brzezinski, age 93, of South Haven Michigan, passed away at her home on August 12, 2024. Preceded in death by her husband, Walter Brzezinski, she will be greatly missed by her children Cheryl Beckett (husband Phil Beckett), Steve Brzezinski (wife Linda Brzezinski) and Kay Wessels. Her greatest joy in life are her grandchildren Mallory Wessels, Alec Brzezinski, Ryan Wessels and Emma Brzezinski, who came to think of their grandmother’s house as holiday central. Her home was the family gathering place, which was decorated for each holiday and filled with her exceptional baked goods. We all strongly agreed with her motto of “a cookie a day.” Dorothy devoted decades of service to St. Basil’s Church, starting with organizing lunchroom monitors in the 1960s, 26 years of funeral dinners, 25 years with the Crop Walk, and gifts for shut-ins to name a few. The Senior Citizen Dinner commitment lasted long after she was a senior citizen herself. She loved the church community, the friendships through the Basil Belles, and being an honorary Fish Fry Knight. She especially enjoyed the joke told at the end of mass. Jokes were one of her superpowers. When family and friends visited, she always had an “eye roll” joke to tell or a very punny poem. She had a plethora of knowledge about old movies, singing and dancing to show tunes. Later in life she shared a love of sports, calling family when someone scored. Dorothy loved her home and neighborhood, with its kind neighbors, bird watching and the beautiful sunsets over Lake Michigan. She had a long and wonderful life surrounded by the people she loved.
