Doris's Obituary
Doris Marie Payment, 88, of St. Joseph, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at her home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at 1 PM at Free Methodist Church, 505 W. 4th Ave., Sault Sainte Marie, MI, with fellowship and desserts following. Memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army in your city, or Hospice of the EUP, 308 W 12th Ave, Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783. Doris was born on June 20, 1933, in Racine, WI, to Russell & Alice (Adams) Pottinger. She graduated from Washington Park in 1951. On September 19, 1953, she married the love of her life, William F. Payment in Sault Saint Marie. Doris had a very creative side to her. She loved making floral arrangements and baking wedding cakes, as well as, sewing and working with ceramics. She was a proud member of the Salvation Army Church where she was involved with their Woman’s Ministries, taught Sunday School, youth group leader, a Welcome Sargent, and worked in the Salvation Army Thrift Store. Doris loved putting smiles on people’s faces with her humor, and by her generous gift giving. However, what meant the most to her was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Doris was an incredible lady and will truly be missed by all who knew her.
Doris is survived by her children, Betsy (Bill) Cox of St. Joseph, MI, Cheryl (Bill) Harvey of Bruce Mines, Ontario, and Ruthann (Jim) Wilson of Aweres Twp., Ontario; grandchildren, Syddora (Ralph) Ray, Aaron (Miranda) Cox, Rachel Cox, Betsie (Travis) Templeton, Robert Cox, Caleb (Amy) Cox, Allison (Austin) Putrich, Keith (Jo) Harvey, Johnathan (Suzanne) Harvey, Alan Thibault, and Raquel Thibault; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Aiden, Deanna, Christian, Colby, Dezirae, Seth, Elizalynn, Isaac, Ethan, Charlotte, Oliver, Delilah, and one great-granddaughter on the way; brother, James Liscomb; and sisters-is law, Ruth Hopper and Pat Snider. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Russell & Alice; husband, William; grandchild, Melinda Sullivan; and siblings, Stella Koalenz, Russell Pottinger, Jr., and Robert Pottinger.
