Doris Janet's Obituary
Doris Janet Andersen of Kearney, MO passed away peacefully on Friday, March 1, 2024 in Excelsior Springs,
MO at the age of 97. Born July 17, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Bert Edwards and Nettie Mae
(Christofferson) Edwards growing up in Antioch Il on a dairy farm. She was married to Charles Andersen
for 30 years who preceded her in death in 1987. Doris lived in Marshfield, WI and South Haven, MI during
her marriage as a dairy farmer and then fruit farmer. After graduating from Brown’s Business College in
Springfield, IL, in 1951 she worked as a bookkeeper for several years before starting her own bookkeeping
business in South Haven, MI. A serious genealogist, Doris and her sister Pearl wrote to every small church
and burg to figure out their family’s heritage long before Anstory.com. Her nephew David also joined in
researching the family history. Doris loved gardening having wonderful rose gardens along with the farmer’s
vegetable garden. She was an avid card player, loving to play with her neighbor ladies and family. Doris loved
to travel and spent over 20 summers on the east coast in Pennsylvania with her son Alan or traveling in an RV
with her brother Harold. She loved reading mysteries, sewing and Suduko.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Andersen, her parents, Bert Edwards and Nettie Mae
(Christofferson) Edwards, sister, Pearl Taylor, brothers Homer Edwards, Norman Edwards, Ward Edwards, Harold
Edwards.
Survivors include her son Alan (Susan) Andersen, daughter Linda (Jeff) Chapman, grandchildren, Ryan Chapman,
Andrea (Matt) Ball, Lydia Andersen, Jacob Andersen, Peter Andersen and Melanie Andersen. Two great grandchildren,
Jackson Ball and Alayna Ball. Along with many other family members and loved ones.
A graveside service will take place at 12:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at Lakeview Cemetery with Pastor Eric
Jarvis officiating.
