Don's Obituary
Don T. Leitow, 79, passed away on Tuesday, April 13, 2021, in Naples, Florida. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 220 Church St., St. Joseph, Michigan.
Don is survived by his wife of 51 years, Christine (Bilton) Leitow, daughter, Jennifer (Dave) Adent, son, Don A. (Rebecca) Leitow, six grandchildren, and four sisters, Sandra Hamilton, Val Bauer, Barb Leitow, and Diane Decker.
Don was born in Saginaw, Michigan on February 23, 1942 to parents Don and Helen Leitow. He grew up in Reed City, Michigan, where his first job was shadowing his father as he delivered milk for the family business, Leitow Dairy. In 1951, his family moved to Benton Harbor where his entrepreneurial spirit led him to his first paper route at age 12. After graduating from Ferris State University, he joined his father in the car business, Suburban Motors, which went on to become Don Leitow Chevrolet, Inc in Bridgman, Michigan. Buick was later added to the franchise, becoming Don Leitow Chevrolet & Buick until 1992 when he retired from the auto industry. Don loved cars, boats, and nature. He was known for his humor, infectious smile, and compassion for others. He was thought of by many as a mentor, confidant, and friend. Don never met a stranger and his smile and kindness will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
