Dolly's Obituary
AKA: Named Bubba by her grandsons, which brings a smile to our faces, because those who knew her saw a tiny lady never weighing 100 lbs.
Dolly Jean was the daughter of Chet and Ann Marshall. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1955 where she was proudly known by many for her baton twirling abilities in the Benton Harbor Tigers Marching Band. Dolly worked at Michigan Bell telephone company, in banking starting at the old F&M Bank and in later years she became a realtor for Fister Real Estate. Dolly married Richard (Dick) Voss in 1957 and together they had a daughter, Cherie (Okonski) Voss.
Dick and Dolly had a love for boating. Each summer they could be seen idling through the St. Joseph piers to Lake Michigan or tooling down the St. Joseph River on their boat “Dick C Doll”. Dolly also had a love for travel. When asked “What was your favorite place you traveled to?” she replied, “I can’t choose one, but I do have favorite moments on each trip”. Her most recent trip in 2018 to Ireland, with her sister-in-law Linda and nieces Kimberlie and Katie, held many fond memories.
Dolly didn’t want to be remembered by the things she did, or list of accomplishments, but rather for her love of her friends and the importance of family and friendships.
She is survived by her brother Phillip (Linda) Marshall of Lawrence, MI; daughter Cherie (Craig) Okonski of Stevensville, MI; grandsons Daniel and Ryan Okonski also of Stevensville; brother-in-law Herbert Harte of Akron, OH; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held Monday, October 11, 2021 at 1:30 at Starks & Menchinger Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI with Rev. David Colp officiating. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Memorial contributions my be made to New Heights CCDA, a local non-profit that provides reliable transportation to individuals to gain or maintain employment or to the YMCA Scholarship Fund for special needs children to participate in activities.
