August 2, 1943 – April 29, 2022

David “Dave” Schilke, 78, of Sodus, Michigan passed away peacefully at his home on April 29, 2022, after battling a number of health issues.

In lieu of a funeral service, a visitation will be held at Starks & Menchinger Chapel located at 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph, Michigan on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, 4 PM – 6 PM. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sodus. Those wishing to send a condolence online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com

Dave was born on August 2, 1943 to Arthur and Helen (Disterheft) Schilke in Benton Harbor, Michigan. As a young boy, he worked on the family farm which instilled a lifelong desire to always stay busy doing something productive. Dave went to Benton Harbor High School and graduated in 1961. He then served in the Army Reserves.

Dave married Vicki Priebe in 1965 and together, they had four children. Dave’s Christian faith was very important to him as was being a member of Grace Lutheran Church in St. Joseph and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sodus.

Dave started his first job at LECO Corporation and later worked at Clark Equipment Company. After several years there, he decided to take a leap of faith and became a self-employed electrical contractor for the better part of his work life.

In 2015 or so, Dave retired and spent his time hunting, tinkering in his pole barn and tending to his garden.

Dave is survived by his four children - Shelli Schilke, Scott Schilke, Jodi Schilke and Jennifer Schrubba; two grandchildren - Hayden Prillwitz and Kali Prillwitz; his brother - Bill Schilke; and several nieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his parents and younger brother, Richard Schilke.
