David's Obituary

David C. Wessendorf, 81, of Dowagiac, passed away, Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at his home.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 A.M Thursday, March 3, 2022 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 305 W. State St., Cassopolis, with Rev. Paul Doellinger officiating. Military Honors will conclude the service. Burial will take place at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens at a later date. Friends may visit with the family Thursday from 10:00 A.M until the time of service at the church. Memorial contributions in David’s name may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church. David was born June 20, 1940 in Hartford, Michigan to Albert & Virgil (Shire) Wessendorf, Jr. He graduated from Hartford High School and attended Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. David then proudly served his country in the US Navy. On November 16, 1991, he married the former Rosellen Haisch Whitney at Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Joseph, MI. For the majority of his career, David was a contracted project manager for various nuclear power companies across the United States. Most recently, he was a reserve officer for the Santa Cruz Co. Sheriff Department in Nogales, AZ., before he retired and moved to Magician Lake in Dowagiac.

David was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Cassopolis, MI where he served on the board of elders, and was also a member of the Dowagiac VFW Post #1855. In his free time, David enjoyed fishing on Magician Lake and deer hunting.

David is survived by his children-Jonathan (Sisi) Wessendorf, Katrina (Dean) Berres, Laura (Jeremy) Cionca and Tammy McCarthy; step-children- Larry (Kim) Whitney, Michael (Wendy) Whitney and Jennifer Whitney; several grand & great-grandchildren; siblings-Shirley Wessendorf & William Wessendorf; numerous nieces and nephews; and his companion Kelly Phillips of Dowagiac. He was preceded in death by his wife Rosellen on December 18, 2019, and by siblings-Forrest Wessendorf & Jeannie “Gene” Wessendorf.
