Darryl's Obituary
Darryl Gene Reed, 63, of Decatur, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at his home in Decatur. He was born January 5, 1960 in Kansas City, KS to Bobby Reed and Norma (Grissom) Whitmore.
The family will receive guests from 11am until time of celebration of life service at 12pm, Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at Newell Chapel, 83313 M-51, Decatur. Officiating is Pastor Mike Heflin. Interment to follow at Harrison Cemetery, Decatur.
Darryl will be remembered for his positive, happy-go-lucky spirit. No matter what life dealt him, he always had a smile on his face and a kind word to say. In his younger years, Darryl was very passionate about karate, earning himself a black belt, something he was very proud of. He also enjoyed watching Nascar, spending time at the track watching the live races, and cheering with the crowd at demolition derbies. Later in life, Darryl and his best friend John would spend time together driving around in his van.
Darryl will be missed by his mother, Norma Whitmore; his sister, Donna (Kim) Messenger; his step-sister, Sherice Whitmore; his niece, Somer (Paul) Batman; his nephew, Kim Messenger II; and his best friend, John Hokanson. He is preceded in death by his wife, Jenny Reed; his son, Brandon Reed; his father, Bobby Reed; and his nephew, Kyle Messenger.
