Clifton's Obituary

Clifton D. Clanton, 88, of Sodus, passed away Monday, February 28, 2022 at his home.

Cliff was born on October 6, 1933 in Wheeling, Arkansas to Jones & Hattie (Jones) Clanton. He graduated from LaPorte High School, Class of 1952 and attended Purdue University. Cliff married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, the former Alice Snyder on July 24, 1954. Together they had three children and celebrated 64 wonderful years of marriage. One prized piece of advice Cliff gave for a happy marriage was to prefer one another over oneself. He lived his life to honor God and loved his family deeply. Cliff inspired and impacted many lives and was loved by all who knew him. He began his thirty-five year career at Whirlpool Corporation in LaPorte IN, moving to Little Rock AR and San Antonio, TX, then settling in Stevensville where he worked both at Whirlpool Corp. World Headquarters and KitchenAid Headquarters in management. Cliff was a member of Blue Roof Church where he served as a long-time member of the board of elders and was a founding member of the Gospel Geezers. Over the years he held many leadership positions. Cliff served as the commander of the Royal Rangers Boys Ministry and was active in missions work and ministry, both local and international. Cliff was always willing and eager to help others in need no matter what the need may be. He enjoyed real estate renovation projects with his wife Alice, delighted to turn drab buildings into beautiful homes. Cliff was a skilled craftsman and in his free time was thrilled to work in his “World’s Most Wonderful Workshop” making beautiful pieces of furniture. He also enjoyed hunting deer, elk, bear and small game.

Cliff is survived by his children Linda Cohen of Kansas City, MO, Flynn (Renee) Clanton of Medellin, Colombia, Melissa Marckese of Orlando, FL; his nine grandchildren Sasha, Samantha (Juan), Brooks, Olivia, Sophia, Laurie (Danny), Rachel (Lucas), Landon and Ireland; eight great-grandchildren Deyah, Damos, Allen, Annalise (Rock), Stella, Jude, Croix and David; siblings-Bill (Diane) Clanton of Huntley, IL & Jettie Goodman of Walkerton, IN; and numerous nieces & nephews. Cliff was preceded in death by his wife Alice on September 11, 2018, his son-in-law Todd Marckese; his parents, and four brothers-Harold, Wallace, Jake & Mack Clanton.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 4, 2022 at Blue Roof Church, 3084 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Rev. Flynn Clanton & Rev. Hans Frank officiating. Burial will follow at Ruggles Cemetery in Baroda. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Friday at the church.
