Claudia's Obituary
Claudia Lee Deckard went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday August 25th, 2023. She was born in Fawn River Township (Sturgis) Michigan to Claude and Lucille Deckard on September 30th of 1941. She is survived by her children Michael (Heidi) Davis and Patricia (Barb Atkinson) Davis, ex-husband and friend Dale Davis, sister Victoria Deckard, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friend Carol Nethery.
Claudia loved reading. She was a huge fan of Maeve Binchy and Stephen King as well as many other authors. Claudia also loved watching old westerns (GUN SMOKE in particular), Mary Tyler Moore and Dick Van Dyke. She loved to listen to and sing the old gospel hymns, worship and rejoice in the Lord.
Claudia loved dogs so incredibly much. Her precious American Eskimos – Mac and Niles, meant the world to her along with her cat Maggie.
Claudia was a wonderful mother and friend. She never let her children think they were anything but loved and they could do anything they set their minds to. She encouraged them to just be happy with wherever path life takes. She will be missed so incredibly much.
Claudia graduated from LMC with Honors in Social Work and went on to WMU to receive her Master’s in Psychology in which she graduated Summa
Cum Laude. She went on with a career in counseling at Riverwood Mental Health in Benton Harbor, Michigan and took an early retirement to do some traveling with friends.
Claudia was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Patty (Sluder) Hile, Silvia Quinn and her brother James Deckard.
Private graveside services will be held at a later date. Her family asks that donations in Claudia’s name be made to Caring Circle Hospice or to the Humane Society of SW Michigan.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Chapel – 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI. Friends wishing to leave the family a message of condolence may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com
