Christine's Obituary
A Gathering for family, friends, and admirers will be held Sunday, March 3, 2024 from 2:00 – 4:30 PM with Special Remarks being shared by Christine’s brother, Claude at 4:30PM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI 49085. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Christine’s name may be directed to St. Joseph Senior Center or St. Joseph Memorial Library.
Christine was born on December 22, 1951 in South Haven, MI to LeRoy and Ella (Bell) Hogle in a raging snowstorm, delivered to the hospital by a snowplow. Growing up, she worked the blueberry fields, rode and kept horses, joined 4-H, learned to sew, knit, paint, and all the other crafts that young ladies enjoy, and Chris excelled at them all.
She graduated Fennville High School 1970 as class Salutatorian and entered Nursing School at Bronson School of Nursing of Kalamazoo to become a Registered Nurse. Two years later she returned to college to become a Physician’s Assistant and began the career that she was meant for and perfected! She spent 22 years at Cedarwood Medical Center of St. Joseph, MI working with Dr. John Carter, whom she admired, 10 years with Southwestern Medical Clinic, Stevensville, MI., and eight years at Whirlpool Corporation. Some people say she was the best of the best!
Chris married the love of her life, James Heyn, on July 28, 1982 and they were happily married for almost 42 years. They met on Jim's birthday, March 7th and Chris was the best present a man could ask for. She worked in Chicago for a year then moved back with Jim to St. Joseph, where she enjoyed going to wineries, sailing on Rags and Dragonfly, going to concerts and loving the life St. Joseph provides.
Chris loved her garden! She was the ultimate crafter, and a pretty good card player. She also made several holes-in-one at miniature golf and was the Corn-hole Champion of the 98th Heyn reunion. Chris was past president of Questers, an Elk, and loved being a part of the library, as she was an avid reader. She was a friend to everyone she met. Her laugh was very infectious, and she will be missed by all.
Above all she loved her family. Christine is survived by her husband, James L Heyn of St. Joseph; father, LeRoy Hogle of Pullman, MI; sisters, Sherry (Gregg) Orchard of Liberty Hills, Austin, TX; Annette (Ricky) Vannoy of Sadler, TX; Kimberly (Steven) Kasinger of Pullman, MI; brother Claude (Ann) Hogle of Fresno, CA., the entire Heyn family, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother Ella (Bell) Hogle, and brother, Dennis Hogle.
The family of Christine is thankful for the tender care she received from the caregivers at Corewell Hospital and the Hanson Hospice Center.
