Chuck's Obituary

Charles H. “Chuck” Wade, 93, completed life in St. Joseph and began Eternal Life in Heaven with Jesus Christ, family and friends on Monday, March 11, 2024, at Caretel Inns. There will be a Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, March 16, at 10 AM at Victory Life Church (formerly Road to Life Church) 3800 Niles Road, St Joseph. Burial will follow at Spring Run Cemetery. Friends may visit with family from 5 PM until 7 PM on Friday, March 15, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Road, St Joseph. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Young Life of Southwest Michigan 2627 Niles Ave. St Joseph, Birthright, 2700 Niles Ave St Joseph and Victory Life Church. Chuck was born September 13, 1930, in Roxana, IL to Gilbert & Viva (DeBoard) Wade. He graduated from Roxana High School in 1948, earned his bachelor's mechanical engineering degree from University of Illinois in 1952 and continued his education by earning a master’s in automotive engineering from the Chrysler Institute in 1954. On June 14, 1953, in Wood River, IL, Chuck married the love of his life, Delores Zumwalt. Chuck proudly enlisted in the United States Army where he served from 1954 until 1956. During their marriage, Chuck built two houses and Delores made two homes. He was a devoted husband and father, along with always taking time to help others. He enjoyed reading books to people in nursing homes or home bound. Chuck was a past President of North Shore Schools, a founding board member for local Young Life & longtime supporter to Birthright.

Chuck is survived by his children Kara (Mark) Weber of Gainesville, FL, David Wade of St. Joseph, MI, Lyn (John) Guffey of Siloam Springs, AR, Kim (Keith) Tate of Corydon, IN, and Jon (Wendy) Wade of Steamboat Springs, CO; grandchildren Tim Tate, Courtney (Steve) Hooley, Christopher Weber, Amy Tate, Michael (Natalie) Guffey, Alison Guffey, Alden Wade, and Neve Wade; great-grandchildren, Luke & Jesse Hooley. He was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife Delores, and sister Betty Brock Washburn.

He is looking forward to greeting each of you, who have decided to follow Christ, as you one day enter Heaven.
