Carole Anne Buyze, 84, loving mother and friend, died peacefully at the Hanson House in St. Joseph, MI on August 25 , 2022. She was born in Watervliet, MI to Dorothy Virginia and Audi Remi Elston. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Ronald Duane Elston.
Carole was a graduate of Benton Harbor High School and of Western Michigan University where she studied childhood education. She shared her passion for learning with hundreds of students during the 33 years she taught third grade at Fairplain Northeast Elementary School .
Carole easily made friends in all circles of her life. Many know her as a fierce Scrabble competitor. She made life fun for her children by gathering their friends to go to the beach, the Starlite Drive-in, to concerts, or camping. She loved to travel, especially to visit her her children and their families. Carole is survived by children Ronda McGreevy, formerly of Mackinac Island, Daniel (Lynn) Schmidt of Harlingen, TX, and Daryl (Julie Schwarz) Schmidt of Sawyer, MI.She enjoyed spending time with grandchildren Allen, Brian and Gregory Schmidt and Ian McGreevy.
Our family is grateful to son and brother Daryl for the many years of caregiving he has so generously and lovingly provided. We also thank caregivers Misty Couch, Linda Johnson, Caring Circle and Hanson House.
A burial service for family will be held. August. In lieu of flowers, a donation in her memory may be made to Caring Circle of Spectrum Health Lakeland; 4025 Health Park Lane; St. Joseph, MI 49085.
