Bruce's Obituary
Bruce Schadler, 81, of Stevensville passed away on Tuesday April 25, 2023 at the Hanson Hospice Center, surrounded by family. He is now joyfully reunited in the house of the Lord with his loving wife, Jan.
A Celebration of Life Eternal along with Masonic Rites, will be held on Monday, May 1, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church, 2950 Lakeview Ave, St. Joseph, officiated by Rev. Dan Colthorp. Friends may visit from 9:30 -11:00 A.M. Monday at the church prior to the service. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma. Memorials may be given to the church or Coloma Masonic Lodge #162 F. & A.M. Friends wishing to leave an online condolence may do so at www.starksfamilyfh.com.
Bruce was born on April 10, 1942 to Marvin “Red” & Jane (Farnum) Schadler, in St. Joseph, Michigan. He graduated from St. Joseph High School and went on to get a Master’s Degree of Education from Western Michigan University. He taught in various schools in the area, and ended up retiring from Bridgman Middle School. Bruce was also known for teaching Driver’s Education for over 50 years.
Bruce married the love of his life, Jan Crego on August 12, 1962 at the Peace Temple United Methodist Church in Benton Harbor. He continued to be very active within the church in the handbell and chancel choirs, and various other committees and groups. As a member of St. Joseph First United Methodist Church, he continued to attend and was active for as long as he was able.
He was a mason for 59 years, loved every minute of it, made so many special friends along the way and cherished those relationships dearly. He was honored and received the illustrious 33rd Degree in 1999. He was most proud of having his sons and now grandson continue his Masonic legacy. He enjoyed coin collecting, hunting and fishing at his cabin up north in Hillman, MI. He was a University of Michigan fan (loved watching games at the BIGHOUSE), and begrudgingly most years a Detroit Tigers and Lions fan. But and most of all, he loved his grandchildren, there wasn’t anything they could participate in where he wouldn’t want to attend.
He is survived by two sons, Blair (Stephanie) Schadler of St. Joseph, Bryce (Melinda) Schadler of St. Joseph; six, grandchildren, Brandon, Blake, Samantha, Blane, Aleena, Makayla and a sister, Linda (Debbie) Schadler of St. Joseph; sister-in-law Ruth Schadler; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Jan on March 12, 2022, a brother, Thomas Schadler and his parents.
