Beverly's Obituary
Beverly Rogers Bessler, 85, of Marshall, passed away on May 2, 2023. She was born October 30, 1937 to Ralph Clark Rogers and Alice Kathryn Kay in Lorain, Ohio. She attended Kent State University where she graduated in 1959 with an Education degree and then continued her education at Western Michigan University earning her Masters degree in Reading. She then went on to a 30+ year teaching career. She met Edward Howard Bessler at Kent State, and they were married on August 15, 1959 in Lorain, Ohio.
Beverly started her career in Education as a Kindergarten teacher in Ohio. After staying home for ten years, she went back to teaching at Tekonsha Elementary School where she spent the majority of her career as a Reading Specialist.
Bev enjoyed a multitude of activities and clubs, including AAUW, Chauncey Court Book Club, United Methodist Church Choir and Bells and local Bridge groups. She enjoyed quilting and made many homemade gifts for her grandchildren and daughters. She supported her daughters in the many activities that they participated in, including swim team, 4H Tumbleweed Riders and Marshall Singers.
Beverly and her husband Ed were active members in the choir at Marshall United Methodist Church for more than 35 years. Bev is survived by her three daughters Lori (Rick) Hill of Gurnee, IL, Suzanne
(Scott) Hodoval of Lawrenceville, GA, and Amy (Walter) Wilkins of Lansing, MI; grandchildren R.J. and Brock Hill, Haley and Bradley Hodoval, and Mitchell and Grant Wilkins. She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 60 years, Edward Bessler, who passed on August 4, 2020.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on June 10 at Marshall United Methodist Church with a luncheon following. The family will welcome friends prior to the service beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the church narthex. Memorial contributions may be directed to either Marshall United Methodist Church Music Program or the Marshall Public Library.
