Betty's Obituary

Betty Jo Letcher, 85, of Buchanan, passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at Brentwood at Niles Senior Living.

A celebration of life service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at Swem Chapel, 301 W. Front St., Buchanan. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Buchanan. Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm on Friday, April 1, 2022, also at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to First Missionary Baptist Church, Buchanan or the American Cancer Society. Betty was born on April 22, 1936, to Thomas and Jannie (Anderson) Davis in Sidon, AR. She graduated from Buchanan High School in 1955. On June 12, 1971 she married Joseph “Bill” Letcher in Buchanan. Bill passed away in 2005, they shared 35 years together. On July 16, 2014, Betty married Marvin Schinske in Buchanan. Professionally, she joined Inter City Bank, later Chemical Bank, Buchanan, in the bookkeeping department in 1955. Betty served in banking for thirty-six years, retiring as a Branch Operations Manager in 1991. She was a devoted member at Frist Missionary Baptist Church since 1960. Betty operated as the Treasurer there for forty-nine years, also as a Sunday School teacher and various other positions over the years. She enjoyed tending to her vegetable & flower gardens. Most of all, Betty cherished time spent with her family and especially loved hosting large Thanksgiving Day gatherings for them.

Betty is survived by her husband, Marvin Schinske; sons, Todd W. Letcher and Jeffrey W. (Kimberly) Letcher; grandchildren, Brandon Letcher, Ryan (Nicole) Letcher, Jacob (Sabrina) Black and Jessica Black; great-grandchildren, Lilith Black, Ryleigh Black and Zane Black; brother, Alvin (Lynn) Davis and Owan Davis; four step-children, seven step-grandchildren and fifteen step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Jannie; first husband, Joseph “Bill” Letcher; daughter, Paula Black and brothers, Perry and Billy Davis.
