Bert's Obituary
Bert D. Goens, 86, of Decatur, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2023 at his home in Decatur. He was born November 11, 1936 in Lawrence, MI to Howard and Dorothe (Woodford) Goens.
The family will receive guests from 12pm until time of celebration of life service at 1pm, Saturday, July 15, 2023 at Newell Chapel, 83313 M-51, Decatur, MI. Interment will be held privately. Memorial contributions may be given to the Van Buren Intermediate School District, 490 South Paw Paw St., Lawrence, MI 49064.
Bert worked for many years in the educational system in Lawrence, serving the special needs student community. He retired in 2000 as the Director of Special Education for the Van Buren Intermediate School District. After his retirement, he joined the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel. Bert and Connie celebrated 56 years of marriage before her death in 2014. As much as he loved spending time with his family, they’re certain he enjoyed being on the golf course even more! Bert was an avid golfer who took every opportunity to play a round. Bert will be remembered as a generous and kind person who was actively engaged in his community.
Bert is survived by his daughters, Linda (Larry) Jones, Sharon (Mary Ann) Goens-Bradley, and Sheila (Jack) Clarke; his grandchildren, Chynna Clarke, Jack Clarke III, and Kaijex Goens-Bradley; and his brother, Norman “Jake” Goens.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Constance Goens; and his parents.
