Ben attended St. Basil Catholic School in South Haven until 7th grade, where he was active in choir, altar serving, book challenge, and playing trumpet with the South Haven Band. He also had the distinction of being the first student to break an arm at the annual ice-skating field trip. A Junior at Coloma High School and a Freshman at Lake Michigan College, Ben was pursuing his dream of becoming a biologist. Very familiar with flora and fauna, Ben enjoyed foraging for wild foods and had hoped to taste the elusive local pawpaw fruit. He enjoyed his first job washing dishes and manning the phones at Pizza Hut. His free time was spent playing video games with his brother, hanging out with friends, cooking, baking bread, listening to music, singing (he did a mean Cher impression), crocheting, watching his favorite movies, wearing pink on Wednesdays, traveling (he recently visited England, Ireland and France), experiencing new foods, playing board games, and reading. Lighthearted and fun-loving Ben brought joy and smiles everywhere he went. He cared deeply for others and was the first to provide comfort and support to his friends and family, often putting their needs before his own. Although only sixteen, Ben knew who he was.
