Barbara's Obituary
Barbara Evelyn Shafer, 71, of Stevensville entered her heavenly home on Saturday, October 30, 2021. What a celebration it must have been when she was once again reunited with family and friends who passed before her! As you read this tribute, she is more than likely chatting and entertaining others in her heavenly home with lots of stories, laughter, and fond memories. She had a heart of gold larger than Stevensville.
Barb was born in St. Joseph on February 3, 1950 to Dale I. and Marion (Denemark) Shafer. Barb was a 1968 graduate of Lakeshore High School. She continued her studies at Twin Cities Beauty College and was a licensed cosmetologist to this day.
In 1971 Barb became an instructor of cosmetology at Sister Lakes Beauty Academy. Other venues of Barb’s workplaces included Sally’s Beauty Supply, Humane Society of Southwestern Michigan, Avis Rent A Car, and Rainbow Apparel.
Survivors to cherish her memory are first cousins: Mary Sundblad, Gary (Judy) Denemark, and Bill (Evelyn) Denemark; other family members, friends, and neighbors. Over the years Barb enjoyed taking care of her four-legged children of which there were many. Surviving is precious Greta, her treasured schnauzer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Humane Society, www.humanesocietyswm.org. As per Barb’s wishes, she has been cremated and there will be no funeral service. However, a celebration of Barb’s life and her love of family and friends, a get-together will be planned for summer of 2022. Be prepared to share your favorite remembrance of Barb—a very special lady. Those wishing to share a memory of Barb online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com
