Marge's Obituary

Anna M. “Marge” Garton, 81, of Benton Harbor, passed away on May 13, 2022.

Marge was born on June 29, 1941, to Servatius & Beatrice (Dallas) Hess in Detroit, MI. She graduated from St. Ambrose High School and then continued her education at University of Detroit earning a bachelors degree and then at Michigan State University earning a masters degree. In 1982, Marge married the love of her life Kenneth Garton in Benton Harbor. She worked as an elementary teacher in the Benton Harbor school system for over 30 years before her retirement.

Marge enjoyed reading and crocheting, but her most cherished time was spent with her family.

Marge is survived by her husband Kenneth Garton; son Timothy Mella of Dowagiac; step-son Timothy Garton of Three Rivers; grandchildren, Ryan (Elaine) Garton of Oseocla IN, Amber Garton of Three Rivers, MI, Amanda Mella of KY, Alissa Briscoe of Louisville, KY; great-grandchild, Konner Mella; siblings, Matthew (Linda) Hess, and Chris (Veronica) Hess; sister-in-law Sandy Hess and brother-in-law, Fred Simmons; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marge was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Patricia Briscoe; and siblings Peter Hess and Margaret Simmons.
