Angela's Obituary
Angela Marie Minestra, 39, of Georgia, passed away on Friday, November 25, 2022.
A celebration of life gathering will be held from 2-4 pm on Saturday, December 10, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel. Military honors will be rendered following the visitation at 4 pm. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Chapel, St. Joseph. Those wishing to send a condolence online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.
Angie was born on February 21, 1983, to Michael and Jennifer Minestra in St. Joseph. Angie started playing soccer from almost the time she could walk and developed a strong competitive drive, she also tried gymnastics for a while but a few dislocated shoulders, elbows and a cracked sternum reluctantly ended that endeavor. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in 2001 where she excelled in volleyball, playing all four years. Angie’s true passion was performing, she participated all four years in show choir, concert choir various school musicals as the lead, performed at venues and festivals in St. Joe, and traveled around Europe performing opera at just 13 years old. While in her years beyond childhood, Angie continued performing, in local theatre productions, stage shows, and was known by many of her friends as a show-stopping karaoke singer.
From an early age, Angie was extremely self-reliant. Pairing her strong work ethic with her independent spirit, she took great pride in supporting herself. In 2002 she enlisted in the United States Navy, following in her father’s path, honorably serving until 2005 as a language specialist. While serving, she received the National Defense Service Medal and a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. Following her military service, she continued her successful career as a linguist and then as a linguist recruiter. She also pushed through multiple levels of education, earning her way to multiple degrees as an adult: her Bachelors, Masters and nearly her Doctorate in Psychology. Angie had a passion for and a professional goal of researching and treating the most troubled among us, those on the darkest edges, and those lost in the criminal justice system.
Those closest to her remember Angie for her fierce loyalty and her kind and generous heart, she was a caretaker, in so many ways, to so many in her life. She loved animals, especially the lost or left behind, and her open heart defined every motive, every choice, in her life. Most of all, she cherished her family.
Angie is survived by her parents, Michael and Jennifer Minestra; daughter, Jade Hawthorne; son, Dominic Minestra and brother, Tony Minestra.
