Alma's Obituary

Alma Bettig, 88, passed away and was welcomed into the loving arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Boulder Creek in Rockford, MI.

Alma was born on March 8, 1936, in Solomka, Poland (now Ukraine) to Henry & Olga (Rapske) Wittmaier. On November 26, 1955, Alma married the love of her life, John Bettig, in Benton Harbor. John & Alma joined Trans World Radio (TWR) in 1970. They were TWR missionaries for 32 years producing Russian programs in Monte Carlo until 1975 and moved to West Germany to establish the Russian Department at Evangeliums-Rundfunk. Alma faithfully served at her husband’s side in various administrative roles. After returning to the U.S., Alma received a GED & was named valedictorian of her class. Alma loved creating a warm and cozy environment with home cooked German meals for her family and friends.

She was a wonderful and caring woman who will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her children, Frank Bettig, Grand Rapids, MI, Harry (Eileen) Bettig, Cary, NC, Gloria (Dave) Droge, Belgrade, MT, and Jeffery (Vicki) Bettig, Belmont, MI; grandchildren, Sharon (Michael) Chappa, Rachel (Daryl) Rhudy, John T. Bettig, Michelle (Albert) Mayo, Timothy Droge, Tamara Droge, Alexi Bettig, Lynsey Bettig; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry & Olga; John, husband of 59 years; three brothers and two sisters.

The family is thankful for the excellent care both Boulder Creek and Faith Hospice provided Alma at the end of her life.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, August 30 at 10:30 AM at Napier Parkview Baptist Church, 245 W. Napier Rd., Benton Harbor. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Visitation with family will be held Thursday, August 29, from 5 PM until 7 PM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph.
